SPARK: Empowering and Strengthening Youth Peers Across Washington State

We are going to talk about the SPARK Peer Learning Center. We will give a brief history of how SPARK began and is a Youth run and Led Organization. SPARK started at a alternative high school in Pasco Washington and has grown over the past five years.

SPARK is a group of students/youth/young adults who have participated in and graduated from The SPARK Program (Students Providing And Receiving Knowledge). SPARK supports a career pathway to becoming a Certified Peer Counselor in Washington State. The program includes a course to learn who you are and what you want to do with your life.
About This Event

We are going to talk about the SPARK Peer Learning Center. We will give a brief history of how SPARK began and is a Youth run and Led Organization. SPARK started at a alternative high school in Pasco Washington and has grown over the past five years. SPARK will talk about our Certified Peer Counseling Classes contract, our JR SPARK classes and engaging youth and young adults around the State to become a Certified Peer Counselor. We will also talk about our efforts to get Youth Peers into high schools across the state of Washington. In conclusion we will talk about what it would take to bring SPARK to your school or region to get youth and young adults involved in Behavioral health services and make a difference in their communities.

Peer support has been around since 1970 and was created for the mental health system. Unfortunately, all systems across the nation have been built on racism. Learn from two experts who will share their personal stories of navigating the peer movement through a BIPOC lensand how to create different avenues for peers who identify as BIPOC.

Heart Folding for Healing

Healing hearts is an origami project for the mind and body. When folding it takes focus, patience, and practice to reach the goal of a single sheet folded figure or multi-unit design. In recovery, focus, patience, and practice is also relevant.
